MTV Launches Sexual Health Campaign

So, youre a sex guru, right? The smartest of your sexually savvy friends? You know the ins and outs of sex; the 411 on sexually transmitted infections; and the bottom line on pregnancy risks and sexual orientation? Well, nows your chance to prove itor firm up your sexual health knowledgeby taking MTVs First National Sex Quiz

The quiz is just the beginning of their brand spankin new pro-social campaign called Fight For Your Rights: Protect Yourself. MTV has partnered with the Kaiser Family Foundation for this yearlong campaign; and yours truly, the teen editors of SEX, ETC., are part of it, too. Well be writing an online monthly column on sexual health for the campaign. (Click here to read the first one, by SEX, ETC. Editor Lalitha Chandrasekher.)

Priority number one of the Protect Yourself campaign is to inform and empower young people on important sexual health issues, like HIV/AIDS and other STIs, and unintended pregnancy. Its all about protecting your healthand your livessince, right now, over 50% of new HIV infections occur among people under 25; one in four sexually active teens get an STI; and the U.S. still has the highest teen pregnancy and abortion rates of any country in the industrialized world.

Saturday, April 20th, marks the official launch of the campaign with a live show, MTVs First National Sex Quiz. MTV will also air other special programsincluding After the Suspicion, Before the Test: Do I Have an STD? and Dangerous Liaisons. There will also be an UrbanAID2 Concert featuring Jay-Z and Ja Rule. And look for the campaign's grassroots level work, including Sexual Health 101 forums and HIV testing drives, in cities across America.

Check out the Protect Yourself Web site for links to testing sites in your area, plus tons of other useful info. You can also get a free copy of the MTV/Kaiser booklet, Its Your (Sex) Life: Your Guide to Safe & Responsible Sex. For your copy, call (888) BE SAFE 1 or click here
