Teen Parenting
Should I drop out of school after I have my baby?
Many teen parents stay in school and earn their diploma. In the long run, this is the best strategy. It will lead to a higher pay job. But youll need help to do this.
Look for help in every direction. Can your parents or the babys fathers parents take care of your child while youre in school? Maybe they can split the job. Is the babys father still in school? If not, can he work at night so you can go to school during the day? Also, some high schools now have programs specifically for teen moms.
Many teen parents do not have these kinds of supports and end up quitting school to stay home to take care of the baby. You can still work on getting your high school equivalency diploma. Or maybe night classes are available. Talk to your school counselors about your options.
Its important to at least finish your high school education. This will help you find a decent job to support your child. If you can go on to college, thats great. It takes hard work and perseverance, but a lot of teen parents succeed.
