Sexually Transmitted Infections
Im on the Pill, and my boyfriend and I have been tested for STIs. So, can we stop using condoms?
Its great that youre using contraception and that youve been tested for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). That shows responsibility. Still, we recommend that you keep on using condoms, for two reasons.
First, the Pill is good at preventing pregnancy, as long as you take it every single day, at about the same time. If you forget, the chances of getting pregnant increase, and condoms give you extra protection. And even if you take the Pill consistently, theres still a slight chance you can get pregnant. So, doubling up with condoms really reduces your chances of pregnancy.
The second problem is that lots of people end up with STIs after a partner cheats on them. Sad, but true. Most of the time, these people thought they were in faithful, committed relationships when, in reality, they werent.
Usually, if a person cheats once or twice, they wont admit it and risk losing the relationship. And it only takes one contact with an infected person to contract an STI and then pass it to an unsuspecting partner. So, our advice is to keep using condoms. Its the safest route for both of you.
